Her mother put her on medication that stopped the episodes, the downside was it also made her barely functioning. Barely able to move or speak, she was helpless. There was nothing she could do when her mother's boyfriend abused her, or when her best friend was beaten into a coma trying to defend her. But when the rain creatures appear, Echo learns that she is able to do more than she thought.
